Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial

October 15, 2007 at 12:27 am (Entertainment, TV, Video) (, , , , , , , , , )

PBS is going to air this special on Nov.13,2007.

‘One of the latest battles in the war over evolution took place in a tiny town of Dover in eastern Pennsylvania. In 2004, the local school board ordered science teachers to read to their high school biology students a statement that suggested there is an alternative to Darwin’s theory of evolution. Called Intelligent Design, the idea is that that life is too complex to have evolved naturally and therefore had to have been designed by an intelligent agent. The science teachers refused to comply with the order; alarmed parents filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the school board of violating the separation of church and state. Suddenly, the small town of Dover was torn apart by controversy, pitting neighbor against neighbor. NOVA captures the emotional conflict in interviews with the townspeople, scientists and lawyers who participated in the historic six-week trial, Kitzmiller, et. al. v. Dover School District, et. al. , which was closely watched by the world’s media. With re-creations based on court transcripts, NOVA presents the arguments by lawyers and expert witnesses in riveting detail and provides an eye-opening crash course on questions such as “What is evolution?” and “Does Intelligent Design qualify as science?” For years to come, the lessons from Dover will continue to have a profound impact on how science is viewed in our society and how it’s taught it in the classroom. ‘

I would love to catch this special on TV, but I don’t think it’s going to be aired anytime soon in the UK. It seems it’s going to be an interesting documentary(??)/special so I’m hoping that one of these lovely torrent up-loaders would be nice enough to upload it as soon as it’s aired on TV &_&. Video

Hello Perry … Bye Jessica

September 27, 2007 at 12:14 am (Entertainment, Expensive Items, Shopping, Technology, TV) (, , , , )

Since last July, I’ve been craving Perry Mason, his TV show (^_^). If you haven’t came across this fictional legend lawyer and his more than interesting TV movies, you don’t know what are you missing. Being a mystery/crime fan with an open mind is essential, but don’t expect CSI style stories with it’s unbelievable twists… It’s more of an Colombo themed series without the presence of Colombo (Thank God; He was so annoying and persuasive) … More info ==> Wiki page. It would appeal to the 70’s-80’s generation; so no expensive gadgets and crazy ideas… Nevertheless; Simple & enjoyable

Thank God for Hallmark channel and their weekend Mystery afternoons. ^_^…

On an unrelated topic;

It seems that women are drooling over the new Limited-Edition Sony Vaio Splash Notebook….

These gorgeous notebooks are designed by Maya Hayuk ; (Grow) & (Never Stop) are their names. Could one of these Notebooks be the one I’ve been looking for.??..  My dear Chic is one of those who were enchanted by the elegant beauties. The price: $2,500/699 KD ; Not bad for a designer item, IF the designer is famous and well known, which is not the case here. Shall we share Chic ??

Media Rants…

September 12, 2007 at 7:48 pm (Entertainment, Home & Furniture, Humor, Lifestyle, Movies, Music, News, Photohraphy, Trends, Video)

Oh Brit.. I have never been a fan of your music but I wanted you to successed. Your roller-coaster life is depressing and as a gentle human being (That’s me.. Ahem), I wish happiness for everybody and that includes you. It’s sad how a young artist who’s been in the business for more than 5 years, always on top to get to this low point of her life & career. You control your own life but you are lost, can’t guide yourself and as a result… A wreck who I hope that would be saved ..(One Day )….

September 8, 2007 at 6:23 pm (Anime, Cartoon, Entertainment, Humor)

Meet the Simpsons ….With few japanese-inspired tweaks …

The Simpsonzu by *spacecoyote on deviantART

Death Note; Japanese Animated series. In the following, poster/drawing.. is inspired by ‘The Simpsons’…The other way around ..

Theee Deaaath Nooote by *spacecoyote on deviantART

… Masha-allah… I love ‘The Simposons’ Drawing…  Dysfunctional family seems functional for once.

The question is… Would you embrace the change if it was announced? Would you still care for your favourite characters if they looked different ?

On a side note: I have been experiencing some problems with my PhotoBucket account. At the moment, I can’t upload any pictures so the posts about Thai-land will be stalled at the moment until the issue is fixed … >_<

Prepare to be Frightened!

August 9, 2007 at 8:46 am (Entertainment, Movies, News)

Although I’m a fan of horror movies, I can’t say the same about the ‘Saw’ Franchise… I love all their posters and the new ones that were released recently did not disappoint me. For ‘Saw’ Fans…Soon, you will be re-united with a new ‘Jigsaw’ Story. The story is a continuation of ‘Saw III’ storyline’, reported by a number of entertainment websites (Not for me then, as I haven’t seen any of the saw Sequels .. It is set for a release date of 26/10/07…

The first one on the left is my Favourite:

Disturbia (2007)

August 8, 2007 at 3:58 pm (Entertainment, Movies, Reviews)

Kale; a teeneger who is traumatised emotionally after the death of his father in a car accident. He’s been sentenced to house arrest after unleashing a violent act upon his own teacher. Due to the boredom associated with the sentence, he shifts his attention on his neighborhood. He suspects that one of his neighbours is a serial killer ?!?!
As I love mystery/thriller stories, I checked this movie while I was on my plane to Kuwait. I had the time of the world and I couldn’t sleep due to the presence of my companion ‘Amir’.. I decided to wear my headphones and watch it.
The story is nothing original, a rebellious kid trys to be a detective. Too many easy opportunities to check on the neighbour( Suspect) and we get the usual response from the adults: ‘He’s just a kid who wants attention’… Very typical!!! As a result, we have to indure predictable scenes so that Kale find the evidence to his suspicion.
The movie is not memorable, although I had enjoyed myself watching it. It’s doesn’t hold a ‘Buy’ tag on it. It’s a ‘Rent’ movie to be watched with your freinds on a Wednesday night. Acting wise is average although I found the ‘Suspected Neighbour’ creepy; very creepy, that I wouldn’t want to have a neighbour like him living next door to me.

Quotes:

( None that caught my ears.. so None this time)

My Verdict: 6/10 …. If you don’t have anything else to do, watch it to kill your time…

HairSpray (2007)

August 4, 2007 at 9:44 pm (Entertainment, Movies, Reviews)

‘ A Musical film, adapted form the winning Broadway musical ‘HairSpray’ which is originally adapted from the comdey movie: Hairspary .

Time: 1962.

Location: Baltimore

We follow the cute, nice bubbly girl ‘Tracy Turnblad’ dream to be a dancer on local TV show and the obstacles she faces in a journey that didn’t only change her, her family but the entire neighborhood of Baltimore’

I didn’t expect a great movie. The fact that Travolta’s character is a woman didn’t help as well.

I admit… I was mistakenly wrong.. The movie dealt with a number of issues; Teenagers boredom and TV’s influence on their lives and accordingly, their future. Racial segregation was touched also, as black kids were not allowed to participate in ‘white’music shows on TV.

The highlight of this movie is the newcomer Nikki Blonsky who was given the heroine role (Tracy Turnblad); a normal teenager whose passion is to dance on her local-dance- TV show. She is talented with above average dancing skills that never fail to surprise her peers.

Nikki stole the show with her role. She wasn’t acting, she’s was Tracy. This role will open so many doors to her which is refreshing as I’m fed up with those skinny untalented so called ‘Starlets’. Hairspray isn’t a newcomer advneture, A-Listers were there and with there combined experince, the film possessed an unbeatable formula.

With so many characters, the director ‘Adam Shankman‘ managed to give satisfactory screen time to each of his actors without saturating us with usless scenes. John Travolta on the other hand didn’t impress me at all. He declined Richard Gere’s role in the classic musical Chicago, and he wasn’t happy when he missed a golden ticket to be in a successful movie after so many dissapointing movies. To clarify the issue, He’s no match to Gere’s; Physically and emotinly…he didn’t attempt any of the dancing routines which Gere amzingly made them his own.

Chicago which made waves when it was released more than 5 years ago opened the door to musical adaptations. It’s very early to pass a judgement on this new trend, as we don’t have enough musical movies to comment on. In hairspay, the soundtrack/songs were magically captivating. Loved them all, but on the other hand, the choreography wasn’t as impressive as I thought.

I couldn’t help but think about the way the Entertainment industry was advertised as the therapy to every social problem we face in our life (Hello, This Hollywood*__*). So many issues were tackeled but 2 hours are not enough to find a cure to racism, bullying and for social intelorance. I think I’m asking too much, It’s hollywood after all. Oh , did I mention that music can unite us?? ^_^

Follow your dream, Tracy… But, it is not reality

Favourite Quotes:

– Motormouth Maybelle: [watching Edna walk in] If we get any more white people in here, this is gonna be a suburb.

Edna Turnblad: Imagine! My little girl… regular, at last.

Edna Turnblad: [singing] You can’t stop my happiness, ‘cuz I like the way I am. And you just can’t stop my knife and fork when I see a Christmas ham! And if you don’t like the way I look, then I just don’t give a damn!

My Verdict: 7.5/10 …. Recommended .. A ‘feel good movie’ that didn’t fail to deliver.

Dancing Competition: Japan Vs Korea

July 29, 2007 at 10:19 am (Entertainment, Humor, Music, Video)

2 teams, defending their country’s honor. Just kidding!!!

Each team consists of backup dancers of their respective countries. Hence; the title,’Japan VS Korea’.  This show  is similiar to these mainstram shows that are shown on MTV, and so the usual formula of 2 teams competing and chalanging each other with their dancing skills is induced here. I’m not a fan of these shows, but I enjoy entertainment to a certain degree.

I’m astonished with the korean men’s skills.. They are so good… Maybe, because I haven’t seen anything like this before.

Check the video; and be warned it’s 9 minutes long !!

One thing I need to warn you of, is the presence of presenter Sarina Suzuki,, She’s so annoying and loud. God !!! Sometimes, presenters need to stand behind and watch, rather than giving their pointless input.

Who do you think is better ?.. ^_^
