Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial

October 15, 2007 at 12:27 am (Entertainment, TV, Video) (, , , , , , , , , )

PBS is going to air this special on Nov.13,2007.

‘One of the latest battles in the war over evolution took place in a tiny town of Dover in eastern Pennsylvania. In 2004, the local school board ordered science teachers to read to their high school biology students a statement that suggested there is an alternative to Darwin’s theory of evolution. Called Intelligent Design, the idea is that that life is too complex to have evolved naturally and therefore had to have been designed by an intelligent agent. The science teachers refused to comply with the order; alarmed parents filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the school board of violating the separation of church and state. Suddenly, the small town of Dover was torn apart by controversy, pitting neighbor against neighbor. NOVA captures the emotional conflict in interviews with the townspeople, scientists and lawyers who participated in the historic six-week trial, Kitzmiller, et. al. v. Dover School District, et. al. , which was closely watched by the world’s media. With re-creations based on court transcripts, NOVA presents the arguments by lawyers and expert witnesses in riveting detail and provides an eye-opening crash course on questions such as “What is evolution?” and “Does Intelligent Design qualify as science?” For years to come, the lessons from Dover will continue to have a profound impact on how science is viewed in our society and how it’s taught it in the classroom. ‘

I would love to catch this special on TV, but I don’t think it’s going to be aired anytime soon in the UK. It seems it’s going to be an interesting documentary(??)/special so I’m hoping that one of these lovely torrent up-loaders would be nice enough to upload it as soon as it’s aired on TV &_&. Video

Hello Perry … Bye Jessica

September 27, 2007 at 12:14 am (Entertainment, Expensive Items, Shopping, Technology, TV) (, , , , )

Since last July, I’ve been craving Perry Mason, his TV show (^_^). If you haven’t came across this fictional legend lawyer and his more than interesting TV movies, you don’t know what are you missing. Being a mystery/crime fan with an open mind is essential, but don’t expect CSI style stories with it’s unbelievable twists… It’s more of an Colombo themed series without the presence of Colombo (Thank God; He was so annoying and persuasive) … More info ==> Wiki page. It would appeal to the 70’s-80’s generation; so no expensive gadgets and crazy ideas… Nevertheless; Simple & enjoyable

Thank God for Hallmark channel and their weekend Mystery afternoons. ^_^…

On an unrelated topic;

It seems that women are drooling over the new Limited-Edition Sony Vaio Splash Notebook….

These gorgeous notebooks are designed by Maya Hayuk ; (Grow) & (Never Stop) are their names. Could one of these Notebooks be the one I’ve been looking for.??..  My dear Chic is one of those who were enchanted by the elegant beauties. The price: $2,500/699 KD ; Not bad for a designer item, IF the designer is famous and well known, which is not the case here. Shall we share Chic ??

The Unglamourous Millionaire

July 5, 2007 at 6:01 pm (Fashion, Movies, Shopping, TV)

Mohammad Al-Fayed opened his Harrods sale by asking the normally gorgeous and elegant ‘Sarah’ to open the sale … The tradition of asking a celebrity always cause media frenzy and provide free publicity to the sale opening. Victoria Bekhams opened it 2-3 years ago and last year it was Eva Longaria . This year, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Or Buffy for some of you out there) was chosen. Since Buffy, she had an intersting movie carrer with lots of forgateble commercail movies, eg. Scooby Doo & The Grudge.

What I wanted to point is .. You are invited to open a Posh Department store like Harrods, where are you getting paied just to be seen with owner and you dress like that !!! You have a problem, Honey .. Big Problem

Do you miss them ?

July 5, 2007 at 12:00 am (Entertainment, Humor, TV)

– Doug and his overweight problems… Poor man, even his wife teases him about his weight issues. So mean!

– When Doug is romantic, you know for a fact that he’s thinking of a cheesecake or a dozen of doughnuts.

– Carrie & her accent.. especially when she pronounces ‘Coffee’.

– Arther ‘Carrie’s Dad’ and his rants that are a joy to watch.. In one episode, they hired a dog walker to walk him .. Pure genius.

– Doug & Carrie’s love for children although they don’t have one. Doug was shown to be better than Carrie in caring and nurturing infants when he was asked to babysit them in a number of episodes.

– Doug & Deacon (His co-worker and best friend).. always watching sports in front the TV..

– It’s a shame that this sitcom was ended

Special: Science of Stargate SG-1

June 18, 2007 at 8:11 pm (Reviews, TV)

StarGate SG-1 for me is that movie which aired on Kuwait Channel 2 (The English Channel) 6-7 years ago during Eid as it’s a tradition to premiere new movies on the silver screen at this time of the year… Later on, I learned that SG-1 is actually a TV series with a huge fan base across the world that created a cult phenomenon.SG-1 was a remarkable series that didn’t deal with the typical plots and storey lines. It was something on a different level that even scientist themselves acknowledge.

Before the premiere of the final season of StarGate SG-1 (A year ago), A one hour special was produced to celebrate the final season debut on TV. I watched it this evening and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t the usual specials that recite the different important incidents from the previous seasons (Like a re-mix without the music), it was discussing the science behind the SG-1 and how scientists and writers can sometimes reach the same conclusion. One professor once mentioned that writes imagine and scientists prove which explain why it might take long years to prove/exclude the possibility of traveling between different universes. In this one-hour special, different science fiction items/devices/weapons or even the possibility of a stargate is being explained in relation to science… I was fascinated about how close the imaginative mind can be to science … I would recommend watching this special as it’s a great watch.

Whether you interest were in science or entertainment, you are going to enjoy it.
