Stop that NOW!!!

October 25, 2007 at 9:20 pm (Health, Manchester) (, , , , , , , )

It’s been a while since I blogged although I’m available in the blogging world when it comes to commenting. ^_^ Who’s to blame?? My busy, busy life, Patients demands, and work related issues, lectures and obviously studying … Had a very interesting incident that I’m going to write about later, ensha-Allah

I attended a serious lecture last week about Non-accidental Injuries (NAI). NAI are injuries that were not inflected by accidents but mostly due to domestic violence and child abuse. Unfortunately, It’s a very serious problem in the UK as 4 children die each week from Non-accidental Injuries and last year alone, 600 deaths were reported as a result of NAI.

It’s important to question children when they present as emergency pateint about the incident and how’s did it happen, the parents behaviour is observed as well and their attitude & answers to the asked questions should clarify what happened. We do look for bruises, burns & marks on hands, neck & arms. It’s a sad situations that we (Health care professionals) might have face in our life not in a frequent basis, but we are going to see abused children one day and as a part of our commitment to this society, we need to protect them, if abuse was suspected.

I didn’t expect to encounter a child with a Non-accidental Injury during my undergraduate training, I think I wasn’t prepared emotionally as I couldn’t bear the fact that some people would beat their own kids and deny their rights from being treated because they (the parents) don’t want to be caught. This little girls who was just above 7 years old, came to the clinic with fractured front teeth, and according to her (( little girl kept looking anxiously towards her (what look +smell like an alcoholic) mother)), she fell on a concrete floor a week ago while playing with her siblings and she didn’t realise that she had broken her teeth until a day before her visit to the dentist (How ODD??). *___*. You don’t need a brain surgery to figure that her teeth were broken and the poor girl teeth looked awful. To cut the story short; ‘ Child Services’ were called. I don’t know what happened with that girl , but I now it takes ages for something to be done for some of these poor abused children. I wish this girl and all the children who are abused by their families, all the best and I pray for their safety. Hopefully, they would grow up to be good parents themselves.

One of the charities that I admire is NSPCC, which protect and support as many children as possible in the UK. I admire their painstaking work and their constant dedication to abused children. Stop. Full Stop

Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial

October 15, 2007 at 12:27 am (Entertainment, TV, Video) (, , , , , , , , , )

PBS is going to air this special on Nov.13,2007.

‘One of the latest battles in the war over evolution took place in a tiny town of Dover in eastern Pennsylvania. In 2004, the local school board ordered science teachers to read to their high school biology students a statement that suggested there is an alternative to Darwin’s theory of evolution. Called Intelligent Design, the idea is that that life is too complex to have evolved naturally and therefore had to have been designed by an intelligent agent. The science teachers refused to comply with the order; alarmed parents filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing the school board of violating the separation of church and state. Suddenly, the small town of Dover was torn apart by controversy, pitting neighbor against neighbor. NOVA captures the emotional conflict in interviews with the townspeople, scientists and lawyers who participated in the historic six-week trial, Kitzmiller, et. al. v. Dover School District, et. al. , which was closely watched by the world’s media. With re-creations based on court transcripts, NOVA presents the arguments by lawyers and expert witnesses in riveting detail and provides an eye-opening crash course on questions such as “What is evolution?” and “Does Intelligent Design qualify as science?” For years to come, the lessons from Dover will continue to have a profound impact on how science is viewed in our society and how it’s taught it in the classroom. ‘

I would love to catch this special on TV, but I don’t think it’s going to be aired anytime soon in the UK. It seems it’s going to be an interesting documentary(??)/special so I’m hoping that one of these lovely torrent up-loaders would be nice enough to upload it as soon as it’s aired on TV &_&. Video

A Full Day 9AM-5PM ! Eid Mubarak ^_^

October 13, 2007 at 1:36 pm (academic, General, Lifestyle, Personal)

Eid Mubarak for all Muslims who are celebrating these holy amazing days and the end of Ramadan. How did I approach Eid’s news?? Well, I didn’t take the news very well, I love Ramadan and enjoy Fasting, so I wasn’t happy that Ramadan was for 29 days only. ( I asked my Mom, to pray that Eid will be on Saturday)>_<.. It didn’t work apparently (&_&)

Another reason for the disappointment is that I had a full day on Friday, Yeah , a Full day on my Eid … (Ahhhhh!!!). 3 hours of lectures, then an hour meeting with my group (discussing dental cases==> Boring) followed by 3 hours of observing anxious patients being treated under sedation. What an Eid, *_*

…… Eid Mubarak…. and Ensha-Allah all of you are having a great time with your loved ones ^_^

happiness.. Why & How ?!

October 2, 2007 at 10:40 pm (food, Health, Lifestyle) (, , )

Happiness is one of multi-million things that we want and strive for. We thrive so many things and without any doubts , happiness is in placed on top of any {Wanted List}. I came across some people mostly patients who wants this and would love that, but sometimes you encounter some odd ones who seek happiness by doing socially unacceptable behaviour. This week I had my first session with one of those patients. In general, she was a beautiful young lady who was skinny, actually too skinny for a woman in her age and height. She’s been complaining of sensitivity form her teeth, and unfortunately her problem is what we call ‘tooth wear’ due to erosion. In lay-man terms our teeth like any thing we touch & play with,, would sometimes get worn down and that can be due to certain factors… I’m not going to indulge you with details but with this particular patient, her teeth were worn down due to erosion from her continuous vomiting habits, she is/was suffering from an eating disorder. How did I know? Clinical signs and her vague answers towards my questions as well as her obvious nervousness..She is in denial and I can’t do anything about that. My duty is to inform her of the cause of the problem but if she’s not bothered to address the problem, I can’t do a lot of this that I would do normally.

It’s sad to see people who would torture themselves to be happy. Is that happiness? In their mid, it’s the ultimate goal that would lead to a happy life or so they say? Why, Why would she do something like that. neglecting her health and her body needs, just to be skinny, why? I guess I can relate to her, I do feel the pressure to be thin and I hate it when somebody points that I gained weight and that’s why I enjoy losing weight because I hate the word ‘Gain’. Yes, I admit that I’m skinny and and well below the ‘Healthy weight’ for my height but I’m influenced by media, friends and family. Overall, I learnt to love my self and be happy nevertheless. I learnt to accept my body without depriving it of it’s needs but I’m still afraid of gaining weight. I hate it but I try to enjoy food whenever I can.  I didn’t want to write about myself, I didn’t aim for that.

Funny thing: 87% of the British population believe that they are happy because of their hobbies, 90% of which, stated that their hobbies involved gardening!!! Do you think that we should consider gardening as a therapeutic way to relieve stress!! Might consider it ^_^

Hello Perry … Bye Jessica

September 27, 2007 at 12:14 am (Entertainment, Expensive Items, Shopping, Technology, TV) (, , , , )

Since last July, I’ve been craving Perry Mason, his TV show (^_^). If you haven’t came across this fictional legend lawyer and his more than interesting TV movies, you don’t know what are you missing. Being a mystery/crime fan with an open mind is essential, but don’t expect CSI style stories with it’s unbelievable twists… It’s more of an Colombo themed series without the presence of Colombo (Thank God; He was so annoying and persuasive) … More info ==> Wiki page. It would appeal to the 70’s-80’s generation; so no expensive gadgets and crazy ideas… Nevertheless; Simple & enjoyable

Thank God for Hallmark channel and their weekend Mystery afternoons. ^_^…

On an unrelated topic;

It seems that women are drooling over the new Limited-Edition Sony Vaio Splash Notebook….

These gorgeous notebooks are designed by Maya Hayuk ; (Grow) & (Never Stop) are their names. Could one of these Notebooks be the one I’ve been looking for.??..  My dear Chic is one of those who were enchanted by the elegant beauties. The price: $2,500/699 KD ; Not bad for a designer item, IF the designer is famous and well known, which is not the case here. Shall we share Chic ??

What we know so far?!?!

September 23, 2007 at 6:01 pm (academic, Expensive Items, News, Photohraphy) (, , )

This picture amazed me. The universe that we live in had been investigated and researched for more than 100 years and still we are not 100% accurate about it’s sercrets. Every year, a scientist would announce to the world, his/her discovery of a new star/planet which is hard to imagine, considering that we only managed to visit the moon. This picture holds all the planets that have been discovered so far. The picture’s link.

This big universe is so beautiful, It will be such a pleasure to be able to visit these planets one day and meditate, think and indulge in Allah’s Gracious creations !!!

Ramadan & Manchester

September 17, 2007 at 8:32 pm (Kuwait, Manchester, Personal, Travel)

I can’t believe how I had changed since Ramadn started. Although it’s been 5 days, my attitude and behaviour have dramaticly changed, for the Better! Drawn into Ramdan’s rituals, closer to Allah through his book & Prayers and praying Taraweeh in the mosque, It’s so magicl, Subhan Allah… Someone mentioned that we should be selfish with our relationship with our God in this month, a month devoted to him, him and only him.

I’m in Manchesterat the moment, hence the busy days that I had previously, and I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy the cold rainy weather… Actaully,I miss the religious atmosphere, The Ramadani Atmosphere,  in Kuwait. Unless you are in my position, you can’t understand my feelings.

In Kuwait’s Airport’s and while I was waiting for my plane in one of the gates, a women is screaming and crying loudly. She looked phillipino and what cemented my assumption is her loud cries ..’Where’s my money??’ she said. Standing next to her, a Kuwaiti man raised his hand and shouted ‘Shut Up’, She continued begging for her money.. He said ‘Tomorrow’, She cried more and started cursing and shouting in her language.. The gate opend , so I proceeded to my plane and before I leave, I saw the Kuwaiti man leaving embarresed-I wish- (How did he manage to enter the Gate’s room without a boarding ticket)!! and another man giving that maid ‘I assume’ 1 Kuwati Dinar. It was a sad scene, where this woman’s rights seemed not existed ?

Al-Etihad airways served Ham Hotdogs, prepared according to the islamic law…in their breakfast, (Shock–Shock)…

Enjoy Fasting .. I’m off to my Taraweeh now …

Media Rants…

September 12, 2007 at 7:48 pm (Entertainment, Home & Furniture, Humor, Lifestyle, Movies, Music, News, Photohraphy, Trends, Video)

Oh Brit.. I have never been a fan of your music but I wanted you to successed. Your roller-coaster life is depressing and as a gentle human being (That’s me.. Ahem), I wish happiness for everybody and that includes you. It’s sad how a young artist who’s been in the business for more than 5 years, always on top to get to this low point of her life & career. You control your own life but you are lost, can’t guide yourself and as a result… A wreck who I hope that would be saved ..(One Day )….
