Ramadan & Manchester

September 17, 2007 at 8:32 pm (Kuwait, Manchester, Personal, Travel)

I can’t believe how I had changed since Ramadn started. Although it’s been 5 days, my attitude and behaviour have dramaticly changed, for the Better! Drawn into Ramdan’s rituals, closer to Allah through his book & Prayers and praying Taraweeh in the mosque, It’s so magicl, Subhan Allah… Someone mentioned that we should be selfish with our relationship with our God in this month, a month devoted to him, him and only him.

I’m in Manchesterat the moment, hence the busy days that I had previously, and I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy the cold rainy weather… Actaully,I miss the religious atmosphere, The Ramadani Atmosphere,  in Kuwait. Unless you are in my position, you can’t understand my feelings.

                                                                         ———————————————–

In Kuwait’s Airport’s and while I was waiting for my plane in one of the gates, a women is screaming and crying loudly. She looked phillipino and what cemented my assumption is her loud cries ..’Where’s my money??’ she said. Standing next to her, a Kuwaiti man raised his hand and shouted ‘Shut Up’, She continued begging for her money.. He said ‘Tomorrow’, She cried more and started cursing and shouting in her language.. The gate opend , so I proceeded to my plane and before I leave, I saw the Kuwaiti man leaving embarresed-I wish- (How did he manage to enter the Gate’s room without a boarding ticket)!! and another man giving that maid ‘I assume’ 1 Kuwati Dinar. It was a sad scene, where this woman’s rights seemed not existed ?

Thailand: Central World…2

September 6, 2007 at 10:12 pm (Personal, Photohraphy, Travel)

Central World is a big shopping complex that is larger than ‘The Avenues’. The managing company knows how to use the mall space to showcase galleries, exhibition and sometimes concerts and dance shows; A simple idea that our friends here in Kuwait might not be able to imitate.

The World’s Tallest Chocolate Tower : Yummy

Three Naked Men: Best angle without my little cousins. It’s built from Ceramics and it is located in fornt of ‘The Pizza Comany’. The kids loved, pictures taken of them with the men. Elementry school girls were super excited and they didn’t stopped taking pictures with their phone.

The Kermiln in Russia. One of the highlights of the mall is the new wonders of the world and the nominees of the competition. In every corner you see landmarks of different countries which is a very good idea to occupy the vast space.

Another famous landmark: The Eiffel Tower.

The Cute Doll as a mascot of the japanese resturant: Sakura…

Additional Landmark: The Great Wall of China, Had to be there but It was such a hard search to find it. We are talking about Seven Floors !!!!

Two Striking elevators that caught my eyes… Sponsered by Sony Ericsson?!?!

After a long day, who would refuse a coffee from the ‘Black Canyon Coffee’ .. Nothing special but in some branches, they serve soups and pasta, like a proper diner. Don’t miss the Seafood Tom Yum soup with  noodels ==> So yummy with the mazing ginger flavour …hmmm

Next: The Asian Senses.. A gorgeous showcase of thai culture and tradition.. Found in Central World.. Fifth Floor…

Thailand: Hectic Street Life…(1)

September 5, 2007 at 7:52 pm (Personal, Photohraphy, Travel)

Thailand… The Land of elephants… Siam as it was known so many decads ago. I was interested when my uncle mentioned Thai-Land. I like visiting new places and I make sure that I aknowledge any country’s culture and tradition when I visit new places. Thailand was no exception. I tried my best but Bangkok did not allow me. Well, my family, whome I travelled with, were not excited about my recommendations.. They preferred shopping which wasn’t my reason to visit Thailand.

Even if they complied with my suggestions, There was something missing. Thailand wasn’t that magical beautiful Country that I thought I will be enchanted by. I think Bangkok is to be blamed. It is busier than London (Which I hate and can’t stand) so you can imagine my rolling eyes when my plane landed.^_^

Street Shopping stalls that sells various items; Cloths (Men,women & Children’s), Kitchen accessories, Jwellery, bags, shoes, watches, sunglasses, Home accessories, plants and so many other things are everywhere. You can’t find street stalls whithout noticing the food stalls where food ‘Chicken, beef, fish and pork’ is grilled. Insects are popular among tourists. The pavements are crowded as a result, if you want to reach Point A to B, you ought to walk on the street itself which is dangerous and I’m not descriping passing through a street to the other side. It’s a whole another story. ^_^

It is very polluted In Bangkok which is a shame. Diesel is heavily used and Colourful taxies are evrywhere and all the streets are in a ‘Rush-Hour’ state 24/7. Pavements are smelly; Food stalls re-use the oils they used in cooking constatntly thoughout the day, then they spilled on the pavements after midnight.. Disgusting, I have to inspects my trousers after a day-out in Bangkok streets in a daily basis.

Stray Dogs are everywhere and surprisingly they are quiet in spite of their obvious hunger.. Very sad. Women with infants on their laps begging for money are found on every street and bridge; One scene that I can’t stand and I had to see daily through out my vacation. Old blind men playing music and mutilated men begging for money. These pictures will be engraved in my memory. >_<

The Weather: Dry, Humid + very hot.. It rained the last few days before our departure which helped shifting our mood.

Temples are decorated with flowers and elephants statues in streets. People worship in silence while sandlewood sticks are burnt.

So many pictures and less writing about places that I visited and exhibitions I came across is next to come … ^_^

Terror threat level reduced in the UK

July 4, 2007 at 9:11 pm (Manchester, News, Travel)

Msn.co.uk reported that the national (UK) threat level have been scaled down from critical to severe. Good news for anyone travelling from and to the UK.

Good news that would make travelling easier and smoother. Hopefully the situation would not change for the time being as it’s the summer season. We don’t want new alerts every single week.

Weather & UK’s Airport Security

July 1, 2007 at 3:51 pm (Manchester, News, Personal, Travel)

… It didn’t stop raining for the last 3 days …

I love the raining day but not when accompanied with wind..

My poor plants are dying from the heavy rain …

On the other hand, Rain is a bless and a sign of growth & fertility …

Moving to the airports

Unfortunately, The security has been tightened in all airports in the UK, due to the recent alert to the 3 failed car bombings in London & Glasgow…The UK raised the state of alert to it’s highest …

I’m returning to Kuwait for the summer holidays in few Weeks , I hope the journey will be easy and smooth. The last thing I want is to carry these see-through carry bags and measure every single bag I own .. I just wish for the best and hopefully those terrorists will be caught.

So, Tourists … wait before you book your vacation, otherwise, you might not enjoy your time due to the security alert.

British Airways raises its fuel surcharge

June 9, 2007 at 12:45 pm (Kuwait, Travel)

The Times reported that summer holidays are going to increase due the increase of the fuel … They estimated that the increase is equivelant to 55% of the cost of some of the flights …  That doesn’t seem alright considereing the fact that most of the Kuwaiti students in the UK and US use BA flights to go home (Kuwait).. Will the increase affect the holidays seson only or is it going to be fixed ?? .. We need to wait and see …
